Happy Friday, Y’all! The storm is over and we survived it! Isn't it nice that our city no longer looks like a scene from Frozen? Now we can take a deep breath and LET IT GO! The after-effects of being under that kind of stress seem to linger around. Have you noticed that? I'm doing my best to focus on all the many things to be grateful for. The warmer, gorgeous weather has returned, so has the electricity, heat and water. Other things I may have previously taken for granted and now do not: water that doesn't need boiling before consuming, doing laundry, car washes, clean hair, driving my car, internet, flushing my toilets, going on walks, showing clients houses and the list goes on. What about you? What are you not taking for granted now? I've been enjoying connecting with so many of you and happy to hear that while we all faced unusual and challenging circumstances last week, the damage was minimal for most and we can carry on.
By the way, if you ever need a good laugh, follow El Arroyo on Instagram. Some of my favorites from the week were these:
-
"We now continue with our regularly scheduled pandemic."
-
"Snovid-19"
-
"Ok, so you're telling me this time we all have toilet paper but no toilet water?"
Let's keep it light this week, okay? If any of you want to laugh and talk about nothing, please call me!

How to Prepare Your Home Now for
Any Future Natural Disaster
|
With sudden below-freezing temps, unsafe roads and power and water outages for days leaving people without clean water and essential resources, this past week has been pretty devastating for Texas.
However, we are so grateful for how much our Austin community has rallied together and supported each other during this time of crisis! While we never anticipated how much this snowstorm would affect our area, we also now know how crucially important it is to be extra prepared for any natural disaster. Below, I'm sharing some helpful tips to help keep you, your family and your home prepared for any type of future weather emergency.

Put Together a Home Safety Kit:
Having the proper supplies on hand is essential. Keep your supplies in an easy-to-carry emergency-preparedness kit that you can use at home or take with you in case you must evacuate. Store the kit in a designated spot in your home so that it is ready and easily accessible when needed.
At a minimum, you should have these basic supplies:
-
Water: one gallon per person, per day (3-day supply for evacuation, 2-week supply for home).
-
Food: non-perishable, easy-to-prepare items (3-day supply for evacuation, 2-week supply for home).
-
Flashlights.
Battery-powered or hand-crank radio (NOAA Weather Radio, if possible).
-
Extra batteries.
-
First aid kit.
-
Medications (7-day supply) and medical items.
-
Multi-purpose tool, like a Swiss Army knife.
-
Sanitation and personal hygiene items.
-
Copies of personal documents (medication list and pertinent medical information, proof of address, deed/lease to home, passports, birth certificates, insurance policies).
-
Family and emergency contact information.
-
Extra cash (ATMs might be inoperable).
-
Extra fuel for generator and car.
Depending on your family’s requirements, you may need to include: medical-care items, baby supplies, pet supplies and other things, such as extra car and house keys. Additional supplies might include towels, plastic sheeting, duct tape, scissors and work gloves.
