Happy Thursday, Y’all! We are moving right along into September, and while many parts of the country are starting fall, we're experiencing some of the hottest days of the summer here in Austin. I'm definitely not in the mood for all the fall pumpkin flavors or hearty stews many recipe sites are posting right now (who else is bookmarking those for late October?), but it is a great time to get all your fall home maintenance items completed or scheduled, particularly as many vendors have long waiting lists right now. I've got some tips below, and please let me know if you are looking for any additional home maintenance advice or have any questions. I have a ton of local resources available!
Recently, I have been thinking a lot about home and what that means. My childhood town has suffered tremendous damage from Hurricane Ida, including my parents' home and business. My sister's home is nearly a complete loss. To me, home is not the shelter we live in but the people we love that we live with. Wherever we are and whatever we are doing is home to me. Each of us has our unique definition of home, and what makes a house feel like a home. And when I'm helping anyone in their search, there is nothing I love more than helping people clarify what that is for them personally. If you or someone you know is ready to sell or find a new home in Austin, my team and I are here to assist, as always! With our exclusive and innovative Compass programs, insider knowledge of the Austin market, and expert strategies, we will make your home buying and/or selling journey a true success.

Essential Tips for Getting Your Home Ready for Fall
|
Fall is fast approaching, which means it’s time to get your home prepared for the new season! Check out these home maintenance tips below from the local experts at Christianson.

-
Test Your Detectors.
Changing the smoke detector battery.
Fall is a great time to schedule testing of your carbon monoxide and smoke detectors and change the batteries in them, whether they require them or not. You’ll want to ensure you do this again in the spring as well. If your detectors are hard-wired, they can still be tested, along with their electrical connections, to ensure complete safety during the winter months.
-
Check for Leaks.
The bulk of your winter energy costs will be from heating your home. That being said, it’s important to ensure as little heat as possible escapes. Check around your windows, doors and other openings for air leaks by holding a flame or incense stick near the frames and watching for movement.
-
Inspect Your Drains.
Although it may not seem like a big deal now, slow-clearing drains may be a sign of a bigger and more serious issue that can’t wait until spring. There are many things you can try yourself to get things moving again, but, if these don’t work, it’s always best to call a drain-cleaning professional to avoid causing any damage to your drainage system.
